Using the DERS

Continuous Improvement

The DERS is used in schools and classrooms as a tool for observation and implementation support.

observation

Objective, research-based guidelines for observation in Early Childhood and Elementary environments are featured in the DERS app. Administrators can use the tool to observe in classrooms, peers can use it for mutual support, and teachers can use it in their own environments.

coaching

Featuring reports that are highly customizable, as well as standardized look-fors and scoring, the DERS can augment coaching sessions with objective data. DERS reports conclude with space to highlight areas of strength, areas for growth, and plan a path to improvement.

assessment

Feedback in the DERS observation reports gives an objective view of the presence of elements essential to high quality developmentally based education.  Schools can use the tool for internal assessments of classroom effectiveness.

improvement

The DERS can be used repeatedly throughout the school year.  Reports give constructive, positive feedback, driving improved practice and better outcomes for children.

Constant Access

Once they are trained, certified, and added as observers, DERS users can access reports and observation history through our web portal.
